Triangle Cities Will Make You Smile

Seeking a happier life? A move to the Triangle may be in order.

The Triangle area has received praise for employment opportunities, cultural offerings, potential growth and development, and much more. And now, a recent recognition from data-collecting website Homesnacks has dubbed many of our area towns and cities some of the happiest in the state. That’s right; the sum of all of our area offerings really makes people smile.

How did our cities and towns stack up? In HomeSnacks’ review of the 50 largest North Carolina metros, five made the top 10 list of the happiest places in the state:

  1. Apex
  2. Holly Springs
  3. Morrisville
  4. Harrisburg
  5. Cary
  6. Knightdale
  7. Lewisville
  8. Summerfield
  9. Clemmons
  10. Stallings

According to HomeSnacks, Apex and Holly Springs ran a tight race. The website reported that The Peak City inched ahead because:

“… most North Carolina residents have heard time and time again how ‘great’ Apex is. It’s on all sorts of lists for ‘Best Places to Live in America’ to ‘Best Places to Raise Kids.’ But when you look at the numbers, you can see why a majority of the people here are truly happy.

Money doesn’t buy happiness. But it does buy you peace of mind and the freedom to do the things you’re passionate about. Families in Apex bring in about $90,000 a year, which is the 3rd highest in the state.

And, does sunshine on your shoulders really make you happy? Apex must just have someone looking down on them from above. According to the NOAA, there are more sunny days in Apex than anywhere else in the state. They get to see the sun for about 221 days a year.

Other factors that make Apex a land of smiles and hugs: Nearly 90% of the population graduated from college, and crime is the 11th lowest in the state.”

Other popular Triangle cities ranked among the top 20 metros on the list: Garner, No. 12; Wake Forest, No. 13; Clayton, No. 14; and Fuquay-Varina, No. 19. Chapel Hill, Raleigh, Carrboro and Durham ranked No. 26, No. 35, No. 36 and No. 38, respectively.
